I'm sharing a recruitment experience that I would describe unequivocally as unacceptable. This recruitment agency presented me with a candidate who had initially been placed with a firm they work with regularly. The experience with this candidate turned out to be poor. And this is where things get serious: they knowingly presented him to me. It turned out that: • The candidate did not have the advertised experience. • His actual skill level did not match the advertised profile at all. • References were either not checked or were not only poor, but also known and deliberately concealed (4 firms, two of which were national). • No self-reflection. • No refund was offered. The director told me, "See the terms and conditions; we are only obligated to present a candidate, not to verify them." • And no documentation was provided to attest to my good faith when the situation deteriorated with this candidate. This was not a hiring mistake. This isn't a subjective assessment. It's a clear case of professional misconduct. Recruitment isn't about passing around profiles at any cost until they find a suitable candidate. It's a profession that impacts the credibility of companies, the stability of teams, and sometimes even the very survival of organizations. Presenting an inaccurate profile, concealing negative references, or distorting the truth isn't negligence: it's wrongdoing.
